About Us

The Institute of Orthopedic Research & Education IORE was founded in 1995 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose goal it is to advance orthopedic care through advances in research and teaching relating to the treatment of Musculo-Skeletal Disease and Injury. IORE is located in the heart of the Texas Medical Center one of the largest medical centers in the world.


Our Mission


Our fundamental academic and research mission is to provide the staff and facilities required to enable Orthopedic Faculty, Residents and Fellows to develop leadership in medicine, academia, and industry nationally and globally through applied research of the very highest standard. IORE fosters educational advancements in orthopedics by offering mentoring programs, translational postdoctoral training fellowships, and internships. These partnerships provide an exciting research environment to further the understanding at the interface between engineering, surgery, and medicine.


Our Vision


Our vision is to restore musculo-skeletal function through the development of new methods of analysis and treatment, combined with empowerment of orthopedic surgeons through knowledge and training.


Our Team


IORE’s accomplished research team has extensive expertise in: (a) biomechanical characterization of bone and soft-tissue constructs of all sizes; (b) real-time non-contact measurement of the 3D deformation of biological tissues; (c) design and development of novel implantable devices; (d) advanced reconstruction, and computer-based analysis of medical imaging; and (e) testing and characterization of implantable biomaterials. Cumulatively, our experts have contributed more than 1000 scientific publications to the peer-reviewed literature.
